For my students in 10th std.

  1. Articles:  Definite and Indefinite: 
  2. Indefinite: a, an
  3. I saw a boy. which boy? Was he stout or lean? Do you know the answer.So article A is indefinite.
  4. I saw an elephant on the road. 
  5. What color was the elephant?
  6.  Was it a male elephant or a female elephant?
  7. Was it  a big elephant? No, you do not know.
  8. Because there is nothing specific about the boy or the elephant.
  9. So articles"a"  and" an" are indefinite articles.
  10. And article an is used when the nouns are starting with the vowels a,e,i.o.u and silent or mute h.
  11. Examples : an apple, and egg, an ice-cream, an orange and an umbrella.  an hour, an hotel.
  12. I ate an apple. I broke an egg. I ate an ice- cream. I peeled an orange. I took an umbrella. I waited for an hour for him.
  13. Definite:  the word "THE" tells about the specific thing.
  14. The boy was wearing a red shirt. The boy was tall and lean.
  15. The elephant has two big,long tusks.
  16. It swings its trunk this side and that side.
  17. The tells about the boy who was wearing a red shirt and who was tall and lean.
  18. The here tells about the particular elephant which had two big,long tusks and about its swinging the trunk this side and that side.
  19. So "article" "THE" talks about the definite  and specific thing.
  20. So  it is  called the definite article.

  35. On: We can go on and on  but start at least now.
  36. For: This is specially made for you.
