A Psalm of Life BY HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW
-
Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
-
Mournful numbers ------ sad songs
-
Life is an empty dream- for those who are depressed and dejected.
-
Life is real! Life is earnest!
-
The poet looks upon life as a real thing.Life is real and not a dream.
-
You can come only once as a human being. you do not know what will be your next birth.
-
Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
-
Destined end- journey is the journey of life.
-
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.
-
You must act to-day itself.Tomorrow is yet to come.
-
The poet is optimistic and says to-day's work will surely create a better tomorrow.
-
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.
-
Our hearts - beat like muffled drums.
-
. To wrap up, as in a blanket or shawl, for warm "muffled drums";"the muffled noises of the street"; "muted trumpets"
-
In the world’s broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
-
Bivouac----Temporary camp made by soldiers.
-
This is a metaphor.
-
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!
-
Strife---- struggles
-
Hero in a strife-----You must be bold enough to take things boldly and face the challenges and struggles.
-
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;
-
Footprints in the sands of time.
-
The achievers leave their footprints in the history the sand of time.
-
,A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
-
Take Heart- have perseverance and indomitable spirit to work more harder. and succeed.
-
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
-
God has given this life to achieve and leave the footprints behind.
-
Life is real and Grave is not the end that is the Death.(grave-death)
-
Art is long and Time is fleeting.
-
Learning is endless and life is a learning process. We have a lot to learn. One life is not enough to learn and know about all things in life.
-
Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
-
Forget the past and live in the present and expect the best and best only in future.
-
Life is for living, smiling, laughing ,achieving and enjoying
-
You cannot think of taking birth once again as a human being.
-
Make the very best of the present and leave the tomorrow to take care of itself.

Message of the poem A Psalm of Life.
-
Live a life that is worth living.
-
Don't get dejected and depressed and say life is an empty
-
dream.
-
you have been sent in this world by the graceful God to enjoy all the things he created and live in this world as a trustee .From dust you came and to the dust you will return.
-
When you live ,live for the present and do whatever best you can.
-
Life is a long learning process. you cannot cover the whole world with your small blanket of thinking.
-
Your thinking in limited and God's creation is unlimited.
-
You cannot think of taking birth as a human being once again and visit this world.
-
Life is for living, smiling, laughing achieving and enjoying and leaving your footprints behind in the history.
-
Face the world boldly and do whatever best you can.
-
You have come in this world and one day you will be in the grave and that is for sure.Whatever life offers you take it and make the best.

Noiseless Spider
A Noiseless Patient Spider
-
BY WALT WHITMAN
A noiseless patient spider,
I mark’d where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark’d how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.
And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form’d, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul.
-
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
-
It stands for the spider.
-
Patient -- works noiselessly and patiently
-
isolated- alone in a corner, isolated,
-
explore- to search ,to scan
-
promontory--- high point of land standing out from the coast line
-
produces filament.----producing filament
-
Soul- stands detached and as well as surrounded
-
Musing continuously;;; Human soul does this.idling
-
Gossamer thread---- fine cob-web
-
The soul also throws the gossamer thread.
-
Soul_- surrounded and detached in measureless space.
-
soul signifies ceaseless spiritual meditation.
-
The words in alliteration:
-
Forth, filament, filament, filament,
-
Vacant/vast
-
underlying theme of this poem.
-
Walt Whitman describes a spider beginning to work on its web. It’s doing the trickiest, most uncertain part of the job: trying to lay down the first line. It’s shooting out lots of little strings, trying to get one of them to stick to something. Then, to let you know that this poem isn’t just about a spider, the speaker tells us that this is a metaphor for the soul, which also explores and tries to connect.
-
Whitman focuses on this theme about as directly as he can. The first five lines are all about nature. He uses the spider as an example of how things work in the natural world. The second five lines are all about human life and emotions, and how they might compare to nature. By the end, the two worlds are tied together by this metaphor, and they become hard to pull apart.
